Carlisle; Digital collage and illustration
The Relatives is an ongoing collaborative project with my husband, Eric Shipley. Together we research and write stories from our family histories. Each story is accompanied by an illustration based on actual family photos when they’re available or created from scratch when they’re not.
Carlisle is a collage of real documents about my family members who were sent to Carlisle Indian School, as well as photos of some of them. I overlaid the collage with drawings of the traditional clothing and hair they would have worn.
